G'Day & thanks Kiwi Bowler,

Were still in, only just!!

Skippy would say that I place all the 'Strategic woods in (he couldn't spell that) leaving enough room for him to draw the shots, We all know whats true!!

He's on my shoulder in the 'inter cafe' as I write this!! Great banter on our rinks, think it winds up the opposition.

G'Day Kiwi Bowler,

Reckon the blame must be with the old weakens night before the quarter finals,

Silly we had a bit to much celebration getting to the quarters, and you can guess few blue ends lost by 3 shots, never learn.

All back home now for last few days of the hols!!!!

Skippy blames us but he was first & last at the bar!!!!!!

Typical skip:D:D, at least we had a great time & thats whats bowling's about!!!

Evening Skippy,

We were talking at our club about the bowling season in your great climate, how long is your out door season and when does it start & finish??

In England we open around mid April & close around mid September! which gives us about a 5 month season not all in good weather!!

You help is this is much appreciated!!

Skippy

G'Day Frankie,

Thanks for your inteest Frankie, depends where you live here, but South Australia most clubs have a closing day around end of April & opening day mid August.
Gives us a season just shy of 9 months!!!

Also have some great indoor greens that are getting more popular with some great comps!!! Nothing beats the outdoor!!

Most of the big comps and leagues coming to the end & quite a bit of social bowling organised!

Any more info just ask!!!

G'Day All,

Hope everyone in the North of the world are getting ready for the start of their new season!

For me there is a few months break from league and major comps many bowlers are attracted to a few indoor greens, for me not playing indoor this year & playing outdoor on an artificial in a few roll ups, looking forward to a bit of a break!!

Keep up the posting & have a good season!

Hi Green and Skippy

Well my club's closing day is on Sat May 01 and then it dosen't open again until the first Sat in September:(.

But I will be playing the odd games at some of the clubs with artificial greens over the winter break, which is 4 months.

We have finished all our Indoor Bowling now and I managed to win a number of Club Competitions the Committee in their wisdom give us a voucher of six pounds if we come first etc, so next year my joining fee is very low Happy Days well worth winning,
Good to see a lot of Outdoor Clubs doing this instead of giving Trophies.

G'Day All,

Hi Kiwi Bowler, you seem to be 2 weeks later opening/closing then it varies across OZ.

Interesting post from Angel with the £6 voucher to win a club comp, were a bit spoilt with several Pub sponsored Clubs putting up decent prize money.
At the end of the day with bowlers it's the winning more than the money!!

Hope you enjoy the artificial I'm catching up on the wife's jobs!!! (no choice)

BBQ RULES
We are about to enter the BBQ season. Therefore it is important to refresh your memory on the etiquette of this sublime outdoor cooking activity. When a man volunteers to do the BBQ the following chain of events are put into motion:

Routine...
(1) The woman buys the food.
(2) The woman makes the salad, prepares the vegetables, and makes dessert..
(3) The woman prepares the meat for cooking, places it on a tray along with the necessary cooking utensils and sauces, and takes it to the man who is lounging beside the grill - wine or beer in hand.
(4) The woman remains outside the compulsory three meter exclusion zone where the exuberance of testosterone and other manly bonding activities can take place without the interference of the woman...

Here comes the important part:
(5) THE MAN PLACES THE MEAT ON THE GRILL.

More routine....
(6) The woman goes inside to organize the plates and cutlery.
(7) The woman comes out to tell the man that the meat is looking great. He thanks her and asks if she will bring another glass of wine or beer while he flips the meat
Important again:
(8) THE MAN TAKES THE MEAT OFF THE GRILL AND HANDS IT TO THE WOMAN.

More routine...
(9) The woman prepares the plates, salad, bread, utensils, napkins, sauces, and brings them to the table..

(10) After eating, the woman clears the table and does the dishes.

And most important of all:
(11) Everyone PRAISES the MAN and THANKS HIM for his cooking efforts.

(12) The man asks the woman how she enjoyed ' her night off ' and, upon seeing her annoyed reaction, concludes that there's just no pleasing some women!

Freezing here as well, bowled on artificial outdoor last night aroud 2 degrees felt colder in the wind, then it rained, don't know why I put myself through it!!!

Although having a good winter break but looking forward to August to get back out on the real thing!!!

For me, have redecorated to keep the Sheila happy, extended the garage so really in the good books these days!!!!

Think the rain you are getting is on the way to us as well.

G'Day All Bowlers,

Cold & wet, thats Australia today, but only 10 weeks before the outdoor starts.

For me have had a complete break this winter, watched couple games on the artificial, but have enjoyed the break!

Looking to buy a new set of woods for the new season, leaning towards 'Tigers' had a few roll ups with a mates set end of last season seemed to get on with them.
Some of our issues is on big swinging green sin the height of the heat, so nothing to bendy!!!!

G'Day Kiwi Bowler,

Have a couple of sets but mainly play with an 8 year old Henselite Classics,
fairly big swing but have playd with them since new and suit me.
Did find hoerever last summers heat they were a bit of a disadvantage but can craw round a head for shot brilliantly (sometimes)!!!:D

Not long before our grass season starts, 7 weeks, looking forward to it, having a good rest, few odd jobs around the home!!

Couple on mates have just bought Tiger Pros Bowls, both blue quite pretty, they reckon a bit tighter than the good old Tigers, will have to wait & see.

Hope those that are bowling outdoors are having a good time, I'm still playing on artificial couple times a week, bit slow for me:D

Hi Skippy, your season must start a lot earlier than ours, we don't start again till the 1st or 2nd sat in September.

I played my first winter competition yesterday afternoon, Hong Kong Pairs at mission Bay womens.
We played 2 games of 1 hr 10 mins and we won our 2 games with 10 ends and 25 points, which was enough to get 3rd place.

G'Day Kiwi Bowler,

We have 2 grass greens & 1 synthetic so bowling never stops, has for me this winter & enjoyed the break apart from odd game!!!

Leagues start early September but greens open mid August weather permitting, last couple years has been fine!!

Just been sent a clip of a winging pom from a Pom that was visiting from the U K, we get loads of them all wanting to live hear, have posted clip below hope it is all O.K.

Not taking any e-mails about the Rugby & our weakened team that played at the weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Skippy,

Pleased to hear that you've had a busy winter!!!!

For you its quite a short break in the U K its quite a long winter about 7 months long so outdoor is condensed & busy.

Looks like the proposed rule changes will come in among them stopping giving the jack away, any views from your side of the world yet?????

Skippy
08-13-2010, 09:11 AM
G'Day Keith,

Yea had a busy winter 'Decorating' only fair have been getting it in the neck over the last few summers so pay back time!!!

The official view on the proposed law changes especially around giving the jack away is that a dominant skip with the last wood can dictate the game, which is not quite right. Then keep changing the rules can upset the membership as a lot of bowlers, getting on a bit are set in their ways and don't like changes every year etc!!!

The unofficial view is that all the winging especially when they keep loosing ,try and change the rules so they have something to blame!!!!!

Sounds like like the grass is greener no matter where you live!!

Think employment is quite a big factor,in London & surrounds surprising how many Australians you meet & hear!!
Ireland is going through a big downturn saw a T V report showing the young moving abroad for work just as it was in the 20's!!

Australia is such a big move for some think about 50% come back after 5 years!! Not for me!

Hey Skippy where's the current figures for that small country across the ditch from you, with a small population too!

NEW ZEALAND: Gold - 5, Silver - 22, Bronze 8, and we still have the netball final to come.

Skippy
10-14-2010, 09:28 AM
Big Sorry mate, just but the little table on as a wind up for the POMs!!!!!:p

Just can't understand why there c**p at nearly everything
Considering the Population in the U.K. just can't step up to the mark.

Hope this makes it up a bit, news below from the Brisbane times!!

A golden glow emerged over the New Zealand Commonwealth Games team on the penultimate day although the silver shadow that has hung around for most of the event continued to plague some competitors in Delhi.

The medals flowed with gold coming on the shooting range and squash court, while women's hockey, cycling, bowls and squash all came up with silvers on a fruitful day for the Kiwis in India.

New Zealand held 11th place on the medal table with the tally of golds now up to five. With 22 silvers and seven bronzes the haul of 34 medals has a respectable look to it.

There is the prospect of gold in the netball final tonight in another classic tussle with Australia in store.

The Silver Ferns could take their lead from the gutsy efforts of the gold medallists last night.

G'Day All,

Bowling Club up in Connelly Pk, Newcastle, NSW, is making a lot on news in the Bowling world. On quite a serious subject of raising money for finding a cure for Prostrate Cancer, the Male membership have been getting their kit off!!! to make a 2011 calender.

Understand sales are going quite well, photo below!!!

Its Cold down here in Cornwall for sitting around we might get frozen in the nether regions, we get a strong sea breeze off the Cornish Coast,
All right for these Aussies they get a bit soft with all the warm weather.

Lots of clubs around our way are getting a bit tight on funds as membership is slipping, hope they don't ask me to take my kit off!!!
