Hi Del,
Have been to Madeira about 4 years ago with some non bowling friends, we stayed at the The Madeira Regency Cliff hotel had a great time and yes there was a bowling green attached and had a great time.
Tremendous views from the hotel, think if I had booked & the tour operator says O.K. wouldn't hesitate in going!
Clearly what has happened is bad in some areas, then other areas will be untouched:D
Hope this helps Del

Not sure if I would be to keen to have a holiday in Madeira at the moment, but I expect they will get back to some normality before the big tourist season!!
Bowling in Madeira sounds great, the weather I understand isn't to hot for outdoor bowling!!!

You wont believe it but this was one of the places i have been trying to get my friend to go on Holiday in a few weeks when the Indoor Bowling finishes,
She isn't that keen and wants to stay in the UK if she sees the floods on television in Madeira there is no way she will go abroad its going to be a week in Bournemouth or Devon
Oh Happy Days walking round in the cold
Looking forward to Summer
Angel:(
Hi All,
Can't understand anyone going to Madeira in the next few months if they have not booked yet, not worth the risk.
Expect it will be all cleared up soon providing they don't get too much more rain!!

Hi Del,
Looking at todays papers shows that there has been lots of cancellations, which can't help things. Yet the pictures still coming out of Madeira look far from a holiday destination!!
Put in a bit below from the 'Telegraph',
Hotels on the Portuguese island, 350 miles off the West African coast, reported a spate of cancellations following the weekend catastrophe in which one British woman died.
Cruise ships scheduled to call in at the one of the most popular spots on the itinerary have been urged to find alternatives because 90 per cent of excursions usually offered on the island are currently impossible and may not be resumed for several weeks.
Hi Del,
Are your friends still going to Madeira and have they had any news on conditions in Madeira now????
Conversation last night at our indoor club was about the great deals around for Madeira and that with Half term coming lots of families already committed to holidays in Madeira this coming April!!!
Any info appreciated.
Hi E T,
Yes they are going!!! on 8th April, traveling around Madeira in a hire car, 4 hotels booked in different parts including 1 night at the top of the Nuns valley.
As they have booked & paid not using a tour operator they have been looking at the general advice etc.
The News is that in most parts life is getting back to normal ready for the start of the main tourist season.
The capital still has a few problems & some of the higher roads etc.
Hope this is of help, early days yet!!
Hi Del we have already booked to go to Madeira in about four weeks and are keeping our fingers crossed hoping that everything is going to be alright,
Thanks for the Information about a bowling green I would appreciate if you could let me have the name of the Hotel would be nice to have a roll up,
Will let everyone know how we get on
Opps Sorry Del have just noticed the Name of the Hotel
Mary:D
Hope you have a great time, very little news out of Madeira, would expect they would be ready for the holiday season as that is when they earn the money!!!
Yes just turn up at the Regency or give a quick ring before hand. never that busy when we were there!!
My best wishes as well Mary, have a great time, have also been to the Regency Hotel but not bowled!
We were in the winter season (cheap holiday) get what you pay for as the weather was poor & rain!
Still had a great time including a drive up the steep hills to the 'Nuns Valley' well worth a drive with magnificent views!!
Morning All Bowlers,
My friends are off to Madeira tomorrow with plans to bowl at the Regency Hotel.
All news coming out of Madeira is that its getting back to normal, although there are a few bargains as some cancellations, could be a good time to go!!!!!!!
Will keep you posted and post some pics if I can get some especially of the 'Bowling Green'.!!!:cool:
Look forward to the photos, bit like going down memory lane!!!
Weather looks reasonable although the U.K. looks great, best to stay at home at the moment, espercially if your club is open!!!
Hi Everyone,
Had an e-mail from my lucky friends in Madeira this morning!!!
They (of course) are having a great time with sunny weather!!
They played at the Regency Palace hotel, bowls that is, and were quite impressed!! Not a big green but they played for 3 hours overlooking the ocean!
Promised action photos on their return, they have also been in a hire car around the mountains etc and say they can see an awful lot of road & property damage the storms and flooding must have been substantial but great efforts have been made to ckear it up for the holiday season!!:D
Will post the photos on their return!!!

Hi Del,
Did your friends get back?? we know several people that out stranded overseas!!!!
At our club several of our good bowlers are missing!!! still they are having a longer holiday than they planned!!! in both cases they are delayed longer than the holiday!!!!!:(
Hi Frankie,
Thanks for your interest, No they are still there, and had enough, although they say easyjet have been brilliant they are currently in the grand 5 star full board althourh they say its great they would rather be home and bowling on grass!!!
They are not sure when they can get home as so many in same position 1000s so they are a bit fed up!!!!!:D:(
Hi All,
They are home from Madeira now, the 9 day holiday turned into a 17 day holiday. They are full of praise of easyjet who looked after them so well contrary to the television reports of many airlines ie, all hotel for extension paid for and food!!!
Several photos to come over the net & I will post the bowling ones!
Evening Del,
Pleased to see that your friends made it home O.K. a lot people/friends that have had their holidays messed about, how would believe a volcano so far away could cause so much chaos!!
Should be playing the first inter club competitive match but rained of!!! Typical so much lovely weather drawing like a heavy indoor green, then it rains!!!!
Look forward to the photos:cool:
Hi Holiday Makers,

Hi Del I wouldn't mind being stranded in Madeira played on this particular Hotel Green a few years ago when I was on Holiday,
Only problem we had was the number of steps you had to carry your bowls up and down as the path up to the Hotel was all uphill, not good for
the elderly or unfit Bowler, have they made any changes about the way to transport your Bowling gear down to the green,

Hi Surfer
We are off on a Bowling Tour to Turkey with our Indoor Club 14th of October I will make sure I take some pictures and let everyone know how we get on,
I am so looking forward to it have nearly packed already still got a few weeks to go, only fly in the ointment is the weight of the two Bowls we have to take always pack more than I need and the airlines are really hot of charging for excess baggage.

Dear Del,
I was in Madeira 3 years ago. I like bowling, so I decided to stay at the The Madeira Regency Cliff hotel. It's very wonderful. I'm sure that it will pleasure you.

Hi Barbie, where are you staying in Turkey??
We were on a tour there 6 years ago hotel had a bowling green attached.
Hotel nothing special, think thats Turkey, but we had a great time with our club!
Know what you mean about the weight with taking a couple of bowls, we pack some heavy clothes in our hand luggage. We have a handy weighing scale which is hand held and accurate, so no nasty shocks when checking in at the airport!!
